Hi Fellow Club Members! Hope everyone had a fantastic Easter weekend, school holidays and/or at least a decent long weekend! Thanks for the outing feedback articles! On a sombre note, the official death toll on our roads for the Easter weekend was recorded as 276, up from the 2006 high of 257. Of the 276 fatalities, 93 were pedestrians, 68 were drivers and 115 were passengers. Most of the fatalities were due to high speed, drivers not stopping in time and taking long to take corrective action, according to the Arrive Alive campaign. Wonder how the statistics apply to Land Rovers? May safety message: Watch those tyres! With the onset of colder weather and rain, please look carefully at the condition of your tyres. Make the effort and look on the inside (hidden side) of the tyres as well. That cut in the sidewall might just cost you dearly if not taken care of now. If you have the time/money or ability, have the tyres taken off the rims and inspect both the rims and the tyres. Personal experiences have shown rust on the rim internal seams and BFG A/T tyres with serious ply splitting that was not visible externally. If you drive on offroad biased tyres, PLEASE adjust your braking distances to compensate for wet road conditions, oil on the surface etc. Please note the updated committee member details on the inside of the backpage. Call for contributions: Please, all reports/submissions are most welcome. Remember this is our magazine. Note that the deadline is the 18th of each month. If anyone has any relevant photographs, please forward for inclusion in the magazine. Note also the e-mail address change for contributions to the magazine. Here’s to a beautiful autumn season and some scenic offroad experiences. Till next month, enjoy! Herbie |
