Hi Fellow Club Members! Ok, the winter school holidays are a thing of the past! Back to the grindstone to save up for that next trip. Please write down those memorable stories for publication! Our website has seen some ups and downs, but we are positive that just like a Land Rover, slowly but surely we will get there! August safety message: Last month we spoke about tyre footprints and stopping power. This month we shift the focus to spares. Be careful when purchasing spares! Rather fork out the extra few Rands to buy reputable spares from reputable merchants. Your life is worth more than the little saving on cheap and nasty brake pads! The same goes for tyres. Make sure you buy the correct tyre for the correct application. Mud terrain tyres do not enjoy dry tar road conditions etc. For example BF Goodrich A/T and MTR as well as Discoverer STT tyres have a speed rating of Q (= 160 km/h maximum). If you have a tendency (and the wallet size) to drive faster - be warned! There is talk up the Cape West Coast that we might see an early spring this year. The tourism industry is getting ready to receive clients from early August. We certainly saw some beautiful orange flowers close to Karkhams (Garies area) during the second last week of July. So, if you enjoy the spring beauty of Namakwaland, now would be a good time to make that booking! Call for contributions: Please, all reports/submissions are most welcome. Remember this is our magazine. Note that the deadline is the 18th of each month. If anyone has any relevant photographs, please forward for inclusion in the magazine. Note also the e-mail address change for contributions to the magazine. Till next month, enjoy! Herbie
