Hein's DiscoII V8 Mods

I bought Mike Porter's 99 Disco II V8 Auto during Nov 2008.As with all Mike's vehicles this was in very nice condition, but as I can never leave well enough alone I started  modifying everything in more or less the following order :- 40mm Bodylift,15" rims and 33" STT's,Burnco Bullbar,Burnco Rear Bumper,Burnco Packing System,Burnco Rocksliders,29 & VHF Radios,Facelift Headlights, the IPF's Head lights and Driving lights all received HID bulbs and all other bulbs were replaced with LED lights,10L Airtank Filled by two ARB compressors to run the two ARB airlockers and pump tyres,to compensate for the big tyres we fitted a Dastek Q Plus chip and 4.1 diff ratios,I still needed more power and with Mike Porter's help the 4.0L V8 was stroked to 4.6L  using the crank and conrods from a 4.6 Rangie and adding high compression pistons, the exhaust must still be enlarged, but the engine produces 156 KW and 396 NM,I have also added NOS which should be good for another 40KW and 80NM.I will post the final KW and NM figures as soon as the final mods have been made. This is now an extremely nice car to drive on the road and also a vert capable offroader.

Very interesting , Hein. Please keep us informed of developments. Would be nice to see a pic showing , in particular, the 15 " rims and big tyres ; Disco 3 owners - sorry , cant do... What rims did you use ?

Let us know when the driveshafts can be used as cork screws  - with all that power you should be able to "convert" them.

Re: Hein's DiscoII V8 Mods

Hi Dave, the only rims I could find that has the right offset and bolt pattern is BMW 3 series. You can get at least three variations all 15 x 7" or 15 x 6.5",but a 33/12.5 x 15 tyre works very well on them.On sand I run 0.5bar on the rear tyres and 0.4bar in front without any problems.

 Very interesting

I have a feeling that a move to 15 " could have a major beneficial effect on off road conditions.

Hmmmm....

Wonder what Judy's BMW 3  would look like with my Disco wheels fitted ? Get her a nice set of low profiles ...

Dave
