The TD5 wastegate control on the Discovery differs from that in the Defender . In the case of the Disco a rubber tube transfers boost pressure , via a small nipple on the pipebetween the turbo and the intercooler, via a solenoid valve to the wastegate actuator. In thevcase of the Defender this tube goes direct to the actuator , without using the solenoid valve. As I understand it , the solenoid valve is ECU controlled and it allows short periods of super high turbo boost.
After identifying that the turbo boost on the Disco was very low and erratic , the solenoid valve was bypassed and the Defender style plumbing was used . Max boost was then reset my adjusting the actuator.

The Pic shows the thin rubber pipe running downwards toward the intercooler feed pipe. |
