SLABS Modulator - pump earthing- Three Amigos
Disco 2 owners can be divided into two groups : those who have hade a visit by the 3 amigos nd those who will get a visit sometime soon. As with many of electrical problems , bad earthing can be the cause. Two areas to check are the under dash area (just below the glove box) and the panel just behind the left front head light. If you look down between the air filter box (on the TD5 , at least ) and panel behind the headlight , you will see a wire or two earthed to this panel . The earth could be loose, or you might ven have a case where poor contact is due to good paintwork preventing connection . See the Pic.

Re: SLABS Modulator - pump earthing- Three Amigos

Hi Dave -

I have a 2002 Disco 2 TD5 and replaced the ABS modulator about a year ago, but now the problem is back. Are you saying that the 3 amigos is not caused by faulty WABCO ABS Modulators? From my research, the 3 amigos seems to be a global issue with the Disco 2 (regardless of year of manufacture). I have read comments on the subject from RSA, Australia, USA, UK, Europe, and even Singapore.

Did checking, and repairing of the earthing as described above solve this issue for you?

Thanks,

daedwa

Re: SLABS Modulator - pump earthing- Three Amigos

 Hi there

No I am not saying that the problem is only earthing related. It can possibly be related to expensive parts replacement - as in new modulator- but in many cases it is a simple cheap fix. Bear in mind that many mechanics have a" replace parts " rather than "identify and fix" outlook.

No earthing was not my problem , but it is often the problem. Check out the earthings as suggested - it is cheap and easy. You might if in doubt like to run a wire direct from the battery negative (or from where the negative gronds on to the body - easier) direct to the two earthing terminals I mentioned - then no more earthing questions.

Good Luck

dDave
