If only we were like McGyver and could immediately source whatever we needed when experiencing a breakdown. One source of tricks is the humble camping chair. In the good old days the cooling plumbing under the bonnet was simply one large bore hose from block to radiator and a similar hose from radiator to block . Nowadays we have a myriad of smaller hoses feeding heaters , and fuel preheaters and expansion bottles and what have you. A ruptured or leaking small hose can put you out of business. The small diameter tubing used in camping chairs can allow a burst hose to be cut and rejoined using a section of tubing. The tubing can be cut with your Leatherman carried on your belt. The rejoining can be facilitated using two clamps and silicone sealant carried in your war chest.
In the case of a burst major hose , the hose cane be tightly bound using a piece of cloth cut from the chair , copious amounts of silicone sealant , and cable ties .
